Zhong Yuan Kitchen 中原小馆

Zhong Yuan Kitchen is one of our favourite places to eat lunch or dinner. It is located at one of the prime areas, which is Premier 101, Kuching. Nowadays it is very hard to find parking there because of the booming of eateries, karaoke and 'lim teh' places. Salt's first impression of this eatery was that the shop's name sounded like one of those inns he has always watched in the ancient wu xia series. Anyhow, what is important is that the foods here taste nice. It started with one shoplot but now extended to 2 shoplots to cater for larger gathering and events.

Recently we went to try one of their set menu on offered 'Set Menu for 4 - Set A'.  One good thing about here is that you don't have to wait long even though the place is full of people.  You can actually view their chefs in action here as the kitchen is an open concept. Our dishes were serve at one go.

What both of us like about Zhong Yuan is that it has this cute rice barrel.  This rice barrel is good in the sense that those who wants to eat more rice, can scoop more and those who wants to eat less can scoop less

Seafood soup
Seafood soup.....Pepper likes this soup very much and can drink as much as the whole bowl..no lah, just kidding.   This bowl of soup has a variety of seafood inside.....it tastes like the sea cucumber soup that we normally eat at wedding banquet.

Three-Cups-Chicken

Three-Cups-Chicken named after the ingredients 1 cup soy sauce, 1 cup of sesame oil and 1 cup of rice wine. The dish originates from the Jiangxi province of southern China but it has somehow become a popular taiwanese cuisine. There are a saying that if a restaurant that cannot cook three-cups-chicken is not a true taiwanese restaurant.

Mani cai eggs
Mani Cai Eggs is a local delight in Sarawak.  If you come to Sarawak, don't forget to try out this delicacy.   Both of us think that Zhong Yuan Kitchen's Mani Cai Eggs is the best in town.  The Mani Cai still looks nice after it is fried and not like some other shops, the vege looks dark in colour like over fried when it is served.

Vinegar Fish Fillet
Vinegar Fish Fillet.....this fish fillet tastes a bit like sweet and sour fish fillet

Braised beancurd with salted fish.
Braised beancurd with salted fish is also one of Salt and Pepper's favourites.  The saltiness from the salted fish makes one's appetite to open up and resulting would eat more.

Altogether these are the 5 dishes served for the 'Set Menu for 4 - Set A' and the portion is just nice for 5 or 6 persons consumption.  It only costs RM58 for that set of meal.  The menu for 4 persons actually have 4 types.  There are 2 types costs RM48 and another 2 types costs RM58.
