Fancy about eating beef noodle? The beef noodle that we are going to blog about below is our Kuching's version and we think it is quite different from those served in Taiwanese restaurants.
The Kuching's version of beef noodle is using the egg noodle which is the same type as those found in 'kolo mee' (another famous local delicacy found in Kuching). There is one particular stall which is Salt most favourite and we have frequented this stall countless times.
The stall is Ah Heng Beef Noodle located at Green Hill Corner coffee shop. The coffee shop is at the corner shop lot located along the row of shophouses opposite Medan Pelita and beside Harbour View Hotel. For those who are locals, you would have known which shop that I am referring to.
What Salt likes about the beef noodle here is the freshness of the ingredients (consists of stewed beef and beef intestines) and the egg noodle is not that oily. The beef broth that comes with it is tasteful and pure as well.
One have the options of ordering the beef noodle either in wet or dry. Wet means that the noodle and broth are served in one same bowl whereas dry, the noodle and broth are served separately. Our choice is always the dry version. Not forgetting to mention the chilli sauce that compliments very well to the beef noodle. The chilli sauce is specially prepared and quite different from the normal chopped chillies served with vinegar.
Another food that we always like to order (not always) as side dish is the 'char kueh' (carrot cake in english). The char kueh served at Green Hill Corner coffee shop, in our opinion, is one of the best we can find in Kuching.
Apart from these two types of foods being mentioned above, the coffee shop has other stalls to offer which include selling chicken rice, kolo mee, porridge, satay, fried noodles, laksa and buns. But depends on the time you go, not all the stalls are open throughout the day.
